The mission statement of the Girdwood Health Clinic, Inc. (GHCI) is:
To provide health care to all visitors and residents of the Turnagain Arm communities regardless of the ability to pay.
The Girdwood Health Clinic is located in a the heart of Girdwood in a building that has historic significance to the community. In 2004, the Turnagain Arm Health Center (TAHC) was formed. In 2005, with the help of Senator Stevens and The Denali Commission, a grant was awarded to give TAHC the old Girdwood Post Office building for a community health clinic. Currently, the Girdwood Health Clinic leases the building from TAHC for operation as a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC).
The Girdwood Clinic became a designated FQHC in September 2015. Since that time, the Clinic has transitioned it’s services from mostly acute care to becoming a primary care clinic. In August of 2016, during the initial federal funding cycle, HRSA conducted an on-site Operational Site Visit to audit the compliance requirements for continued federal funding. The Clinic did exceptionally well during this review and was cleared to apply for three-year grant funding as an established FQHC. Those funds were awarded in May, 2017 with funding through 2020. In addition to the federal grant to operate as a FQHC, in 2016 the clinic was also awarded a federal grant to upgrade their Delivery System Health Information Investment (DSHII). The Clinic has also received federal Quality Awards for displaying high levels of quality performance. The clinic is continually expanding it’s services to meet the needs of the community, with a focus on health and wellness of men, women, children and the elderly.
